Born in Leningrad (now St. Petersburg). He received musical education in piano and clarinet. Later, changing his professional direction, he graduated from the Baltic State Technical University. In 1998, he released his first album as part of the band "Aurora," recorded at "Melodiya" studio. Colleagues characterize Maev as a musician with a Western mindset: combining and developing different creative directions, he works in sound production and writes music for theatrical productions and films. Intensio and "Dzhan" are the first one-act ballets created in close collaboration with choreographer Yuri Smekalov. The performance of Intensio took place at the Mariinsky Theatre in 2013, while the production of "Dzhan" was presented as part of Vladimir Vasiliev's creative workshop project "Andrei Platonov and Ballet" (Voronezh Opera and Ballet Theatre, 2013). In August 2013, the premiere of the two-act ballet Infinita Frida to music by Alexander Maev (choreography by Yuri Smekalov) took place at the Eliza Cabrera Theatre-Concert Hall in Texcoco, Mexico. In 2013 and 2014, the music "Forest" from the symphonic suite Intensio was performed at the finale of Kremlin Gala in Moscow. In March 2014, the premiere of the one-act ballet "Camera Obscura" to music by Alexander Maev took place at the Mariinsky Theatre. In 2014, he participated in writing music for the musical "Master and Margarita." Since 2012, he has written music for more than 90 feature films and TV series. Recent film works include: SKY, GOLDEN BRONZE, FIRST DEPARTMENT, MERMAID – LAKE OF THE DEAD, and RZHEV.
