Downtempo or downbeat is a style of modern electronic music characterized by slow tempo and, most often, broken rhythm. “Brokenness” of the rhythm is achieved by shifting the strong parts of the beat on the weak (syncopation) or by the simultaneous combination of two or more independent rhythms (polyrhythm). Bossa Nova, bossa nova (port. bossa nova) is a genre of Brazilian popular music that is a synthesis of local folklore and jazz: it combines the rhythm of Brazilian urban samba and the harmony of American jazz (i.e., a type of extended chromatic tonality). The rhythm of bossa nova does not manifest itself in the melody (usually simple, consisting of ostinato and/or sequenced short motifs), but in the accompaniment. A specific accompaniment was developed in the 1950s by Brazilian pop guitarist, singer and songwriter João Gilberto. Its essence is syncopated rhythm formulas, usually covering two bars (4/4 size).

Salsa is a musical genre developed in the 1960s and 1970s by immigrants from Latin American countries in New York City and its suburbs. Characteristic features are 4/4 size, phrasing with a period of two bars, fast tempo, complex rhythmic pattern, which is a combination of “tumbao” and “son clave” rhythms. Salsa unites many styles and their variations, the term can be used to describe most of the genres that have emerged from Cuba, such as cha-cha-cha (chachacha) and mambo (mambo).

Latin Pop is a genre of modern music aimed at a mass audience. It combines simple, catchy melodies, rhythms, and lyrics, often with an emphasis on a verse-chorus structure. Latin American pop music uses elements of such Latin American genres as salsa, samba, banda, flamenco, tango and reggae. Latin American pop music is characterized by a fast rhythm. The main and almost the only form of composition in pop music is "song" (in Spanish, English, Portuguese).

Country music tends to have open guitar chords and a 2/4 or 4/4 rhythm. The form of vocal numbers is usually verse-by-verse - a solo chorus and a choral refrain.

Tango is a style of instrumental and vocal, mostly dance music, usually in 2/4 or 4/4, which emerged at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries in Argentina and Uruguay among immigrants from Southern Europe as a result of a mixture of European, Latin American and African musical traditions. Traditionally, it is performed by an entire ensemble (esp. orquesta típica) consisting of several violins, flute, piano, double bass and at least two bandoneons.

Disco is one of the main genres of dance music of the 20th century, which emerged in the early 1970s. It is characterized by colorful melodies with emphasized dance rhythms, unpretentious lyrics, musical size 4/4 with an emphasis on each of the lobes, and a tempo of about 120 beats per minute.
