Salsa

Salsa is a musical genre developed in the 1960s and 1970s by immigrants from Latin American countries in New York City and its suburbs. Characteristic features are 4/4 size, phrasing with a period of two bars, fast tempo, complex rhythmic pattern, which is a combination of “tumbao” and “son clave” rhythms. Salsa unites many styles and their variations, the term can be used to describe most of the genres that have emerged from Cuba, such as cha-cha-cha (chachacha) and mambo (mambo).
